The National Landfill Survey contacted every operating landfill in Australia and asked a series of simple questions about size, siting, annual tonnage, waste types and typical features of a modern landfill site. Where sites didn't have a weighbridge, annual tonnages were estimated using population data. The response was over 95% and the database covers the smallest rural sites to the largest metropolitan landfill. This page shows aggregated data from each State and Territory in terms of the size ranges of the sites and the numbers which had a range of features, which are considered Best Practice.
